Sept. 25th Journaling Matthew 18

September 27th, 2008 · No Comments

Verse 4 “Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  This verse stands as an indictment to my theological education!

I’ve spent a lot of time in Matthew 18.  Father, you know the time I’ve wasted arguing about “Church Discipline” and the process of dealing with those who profess to follow Christ but don’t act like it.  Somehow one of the keys to experiencing Jesus’ kingdom, “having a childlike, soft, awed, exploring spirit,” escaped my notice.  Skipped right over it.

I think I longed to be the Bible Answer man not for how the answers would change people’s live but for what it would do for my image.  It makes me want to redo my life.  I am not sure that I could go back thru the educational experiences that I did and experience it differently.  I’ll never know.

Father give me eyes for the ordinary.  I so often have longed for the extraordinary insight to share only to further bolster my image in people’s mind.   While looking for he extra-ordinary I was blind to this core truth, childlike hearts are the greatest in the kingdom.

Father I am not exactly sure but I know that the teachable spirit of a child, the wonder of new things, the questions, incessant questions are childlike.

Father may I always have more questions than answers.
