I think you can disagree with the prosperity gospel without asserting that God wants us to suffer. God wants us to love him, and one another, in all circumstances good and bad. We are not rewarded more greatly for loving God during difficult times. In fact, we are often more drawn to God during tough times. It’s perhaps a greater testament to our faith if we praise God during good times. John Piper’s dark message does not sit well with me.
