A different side of South Africa exposed itself today. We spent the night (16th) in Plettenberg Bay, a beautiful little city with a view of the ocean from everywhere. It was a relaxing evening well needed because of the extremes of the previous’ days events.
The morning found us at Buffalo Hills game preserve. Thinking that “Game Preserve” might resemble something from a National Geographic movie or at least Lion King, we paid our money and jumped in a massive jeep. An impressive array of antelope of different colors and sizes, along with giraffes and two rhinos fighting which is a story not to be told here!
Unfortunately the animals are impressive when driving thru a Safari Park in Orlando but when you are in Africa hunting down these gorgeous creature in a massive (can’t see the fences) fenced in area no matter how big, it is a bit disappointing.
We ended our evening with a traditional African meal at Oceans of Mercy. The older kids ate with us. They are delightful kids who love to laugh and play. It seems that the younger ones can’t be held, tickled or touched enough. As you learn their stories, you just stare in awe of the recovery taking place in this little ones.
Mama Gladys and I talked tonight about their vocational futures. Work, good work is hard to find in SA. There is not much training available to give these kids skills they can use in the market place. As I sat fixing their computer tonight several of them huddled around me and kept wanting to know what I was doing.
They are scary intelligent and quick to pickup technical things. There is a need to provide them with computers and training that would equip them to secure a great economic future
