Shoal Creek Outdoors

September 16th, 2006 · 2 Comments

As I sit in Dolores, CO trying to write (5 days and one chapter! ugh!) I have a view of 3 different mountain ranges that are a feast for the eyes.  This feast stimulates not only my eyes but my mind.  There is something about God and the Great Outdoors that go hand in hand.

Last Sunday, eleven women attempted to summit Mt. Quandry just outside of Breckenridge, CO.  Amidst snow, hail and driving winds they summitted the peak and changed their souls forever.  Their stories are ones we ought to all hear.  It was more than just a physical challenge.  They experienced something inside them that could never happen at home.

There is a movement underway at Shoal Creek that is connecting women with God in this Great Outdoors, called Bravehearts.  Lydia Goodwin has championed this movement quietly amongst us.  Lydia dreams about giving women a chance to challenge their emotional boundaries thru outdoor experiences, especially those who aren’t athletically inclined.

Imagine if there was a movement for stimulating our spiritual journeys thru God’s Great Outdoors for everyone.  Rafting trips thru the Royal Gorge in CO, family hiking trip, camping trips, hunting, fishing, traveling, dirt biking, motorcyle rides, rollerblading, and who knows what!

We need a champion!  What a service it would be to have regular excursions into the Great Outdoors for the specific purpose of experiencing God.

As I write I am listening to Chris Tomlin’s song Party off the latest Passion CD.  For those of you who were concert rock freaks in the 70′s this is your song.  Looking at the mountains, listening to the song, there is a party waiting for us as we experience God in the GREAT OUTDOORS.

Where are the imagineers!

Dreamin’
