Lost in Faith

Maybe I shouldn’t base my emotional response on national media reports but all week I’ve been under siege. The President is trying to “repair” his relationship with his base and has chosen Immigration policy for the healing.

I just can’t believe the rank hypocrisy of those who call themselves evangelicals. What the hell does that mean anymore? It is Politics over theology, patriotism before discipleship.

Mr. President, my pedigree is as evangelical as it gets – Dallas Theological Seminary! But please forgive me for being incensed! Why is it we are building a fence to keep people out when we ourselves (or our forefathers who wrought this great land!) slaughtered the original inhabitants and herded the rest of them up and fenced them in?

Thank God the American Indians couldn’t build fences to keep Europeans out! It seems that with the past history of Europeans in the new world that we’d at least have some humility as we approach this issue. Where was the rule of law as we marched west?  At best the Mexicans coming across the border are just 200 years late!

Why are a few million Mexican citizens looking for a better life in our country more important than millions being slaughtered and/or starving to death in Darfur? There was a time when I had elephants hidden in my closest. But the rush to war in Iraq and now this. Yes, I am slipping away! It seems we delicately pick our battles to become self righteous about the rule of law.
