3. Mission Adelante Service Needs in January – If you’re a family or dad looking for something do with your family to keep the Christmas spirit going, please read below. Mission Adelante is an organization we at Shoal Creek greatly support, and spending a half day with them would be an amazing family-building experience for you and the ones you love! Here’s the email Jarret Meek, the director, sent me this past week:
Dear Friends,
I am contacting you because of your skill as a craftsman or because you may know some skilled craftsmen who would like to volunteer their time. Our projects continue to progress little by little at Mission Adelante. We are in a phase now where smaller teams of skilled workers (not necessarily professional) and helpers are needed rather than larger teams. In January we are hoping to blitz our project with 4 Saturdays of work to finish up some of the critical path projects that will allow other things to fall into place through the spring months. We have needs for skilled workers and helpers in the areas of carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing and doors on the following dates:
- January 2
- January 9
- January 16
- January 23
Would you please consider spending one or more Saturdays with us this January to help us push through toward finish some of our projects?
Please contact Jarrett Meek at jarrettm@missionadelante.org to sign up or
James McClure at 816.726.2032 with questions about project specifics.

1. Camp and Mexico Mission Trip. I’m starting my sign-up lists now for students that want to go to YouthFront Camp, or on the YouthFront Croc, MX Mission Trip.
If you want to know more about the Croc, MX Mission Trip, go here. This is where I went on my first international mission trip two summers ago and LOVED it! It was an extremely valuable experience and I’m glad to have students going back again this summer. There was a lot of interaction with the local people, we did meaningful and lasting activities, and we had great discussion and processing time as a team. The total number we’re going to send is fifteen, and only six or so spots are left open. Eric Haynes is going to be the mission trip leader, since I will be traveling to South Africa for a month next summer and be unable to do both trips. Eric’s email is hteam@sbcglobal.net if you’d like to contact him directly, or you can contact me and I can answer any questions you might also have. We’re estimating total costs of the trip (including food money on the way down) to be around $500, if you already have a passport. (If not, add about $60-$90.) This is really cheap for an extremely high quality mission trip. In fact, it’s really only about $100-$150 more than a week at camp.
If you want to know more about YouthFront Camp, go here. If you have already been to camp two or more years, PLEASE consider going on the mission trip this next summer. I only have eight girls and eight boys spots reserved right now, and I’m going to try and give them out first to students who’ve only been to camp one summer or have not been yet. If I need to get more camps spots I still have time, but weeks sell out quickly after the turn of the new year. Our week is Week 8 at Camp West (Mon Jul 26th – Sat Jul 31st), which is for any incoming 6th graders or outgoing 8th graders. If there are any students entering 10th grade that would like to go to camp instead of the MX mission trip, then I’d like for you to call me and we can talk. Cost is $395/student, which does NOT include any spending money for your student that week. If we can fill out our sixteen spots, than we can get a $15/student group discount.
2. Christmas Rewind – Come to Shoal Creek this Wednesday night from 6:30-7:30 for n all family Christmas special you don’t want to miss. Join us for a funny and fast-paced telling of the Christmas Story. Complete with music from the Shoal Creek House Band, this mid-week event will be a great way to kick off the Christmas Celebration. No child care provided.
3. Christmas Eve Services - DO NOT MISS! I don’t think I really even need to say or describe anything about the Christmas Eve Services. They are awesome–the truth has been spoken. All you need to do is show up at any of the following times:
Wed the 23rd - 7:30, Thurs the 24th – 5:30, 7:30, and an 11:00 Candlelight Service

Hey Families, here’s what you need to know:
1. The Buya Christmas Party is happening this Friday night, 7-10pm, at Shoal Creek. Cost is $3/student. Each student will get to come see “Mission Improvable”. What is “Mission Improvable”? Well, let me quote the Shoal Creek Calendar description. It is…
“A night of laughter and music with the Shoal Creek Drama and Music Teams. The Drama Team will entertain you with Improv comedy fit for the whole family and the Music Team will be on hand for some Christmas music as well. $5 per person for a fun evening and a great cause! All proceeds go to helping support Derek and Shea Poe on their two year mission to continue our work in South Africa.”
So, your entire family can come, but only your students get to go for $3 (to cover the food and drinks for our party afterwords). If any other family members want to come, then they’ll need to pay the $5 that go to support Derek and Shea. If that’s confusing, just let me know. If they whole family wants to stick around and go to the Buya Christmas Party to, you’re welcome to come! We’ll head up into the Attic for snacks and drinks, and to do a little improv of our own.
