1. Turkey Olympics - check out the post below.
2. The Attic – Now open to our Crash (10th-12th grade) students, The Attic is a space located up a staircase connected to the lobby that is just for the Crash students. The Attic has a coffee shop just like the Auditorium, plus we’re serving free pancakce through Christmas. There are 3 TV’s, including a 61″ DLP, that stream the service live on Sunday mornings so that the Crash students can have their own space, with food and drinks, to watch the service. Open from 9:15-12:00pm every Sunday.
3. Buya Christmas Party – Mark your calendars for Friday, Dec 11th, 7:00pm-10:00pm at Shoal Creek for your 6th-9th grade students. We’re having our annual Christmas Party, but for a special surprise this year, it coincides with “Mission Improvable”, a South Africa fundraiser Improv Night hosted by Shoal Creek’s Drama Team. Cost is $3. We will all attend the hour, hour and a half improv night, then have our own Christmas Party afterwards. It’s going to be extremely hilarious. If any of you where at Shoal Creek on a Sunday about a month ago, our Drama Team did some improv that was awesome. So show up by 7:00pm, go into the Auditorium, and when it’s over we’ll go to the Attic for our Buya Party portion with snacks and games.
4. Camp and Missions for Next Summer – If your family is interested in know what the options are for next summer, I’d like for you to contact me more personally at justin.talley@shoalcreek.org. We’d like for next summer’s 6th-7th, or 8th graders who’ve never gone, to go to YouthFront Camp. I have 8 girl/8 boy spots reserved for the week of July 26th-31st. This is the 4th year we’ve sent our students, and it continues to be a worthy experience for the students that attend. Spots are given out on a first come, first service by deposit basis. Total cost for the camp is around $400.
We’d like our 8th-12th graders to sign up for the Mission Adelante VBS program. We did this last year, and we’re going to step it up a notch for this summer by turning what was a 3-night serving opportunity into an “urban-mission trip” for 20 students. We’re scheduled for May 30-June 2nd. During the 4 days we’ll do community service projects in the mornings, have afternoon discussions and planning time, and in the evenings run childrens programming. I’m projecting costs to be anywhere from $50-$100 per student, depending on what I can find for rooming accomodations, and what we can raise at our Valentine’s Fundraiser. I’m going to need 3-4 adult volunteers to consider taking vacation time to help out with this endeavor.
Mexico Mission Trip – I am still wanting to send a team of students/parents on a short-term mission trip to Mexico. I’m having talks with several different people and organizations that can help us find the right destinatin. Personally, I will be taking a 3-4 week trip to South Africa next summer, and will not be able to lead a Mexico team. If your family is interested in sending your student to Mexico, please contact me soon.
5. Mission Adelante Paint Day Need – Any of you helped out Mission Adelante before? Well, they need 20 painters for a paint day on Dec 5th to help finish up some of the painting that needs to be done in their renovated building. If you’re interested in going down, I’ve got the supplies and we can get it set up. Let me know.
