Buya “Conversations”

August 15, 2008

Buya will now be adding a “Conversations” time to our hangout time in Buya:AM. Halfway through each Buya:AM program, we will split up the boys and girls into several small groups. This small group time is called “Conversations” and we will focus each month on one of four “Conversations” topics:  God, Family, Friends, and Self. So for the next three weeks we’re going to focus on God – Creation: How does Christianity say the world was created?  Next week our Conversations topic will be God – Creation: Why did God create the world and people in it?

Each week will be a new topic that relates to one of the bigger topics of God, Friends, Family or Self.

If you’re wanting to attend the Elevate Family Lake Night, here’s what you need to know.

Any family with 6th-12th grade students is invited to come to Lathrop, MO, to have a fun night of BBQ and boating, volleyball and running around. The whole family can come, so that means littlier ones too, as long as you can keep track of them that is, :) ! It will cost $3 per family member; we’ll provide food and drinks.

Please Plan on Driving there with your family.
Though in the country, the Seba Property is very easy to locate and arrive safely. Plan on arriving at the Seba Property at 6:00 (it takes apx. 30 minutes from the Shoal Creek building). The address is – 223 NE Mule Barn Road, Lathrop, MO, 64465, and the Mapquest directions are perfect. We will wrap things about around 10:00 for families to head back home.

If you’re family can’t come, but just the student:
First
, please email me to let me know that you need a permission slip and that the family can’t come. (justin.talley@shoalcreek.org)  Second, let me know if can arrange a ride out to the property with another family, or if you need somebody to arrange a ride out there.

Lastly, if you are a family that is willing to drive “rideless” students, please email me and let me know.
I will plan on being out there early to get everything setup, so I could use 1 or 2 families meeting at the church around 5:30 to bring students out, then back, if we need to.

This Sunday is Buya Plunge for the 6th-8th grade students of SC. We’ll be looking at how the “American Dream” plays out in our lives and where Jesus intersects with that.

Also, we will be having our first Buya Servant Team meeting of the school year, starting at 4:30 and leading up to Plunge at 6:00. The Buya Servant Team is a group that any Buya student can be a part of. The goal of the Buya Servant Team is to help Buya students learn to be leaders and give direction to the Buya youth group. Please email Justin Talley at justin.talley@shoalcreek.org to RSVP or get more info.
