This Sunday June 1 and the week to come…
May 30, 2008
This Sunday in Buya:Am (at 9:30 and 11:00am in the Underground), Buya students can come and hangout with their friends and get to know the Buya Leaders. We’re starting a weekly Creative Arts project this Sunday also. First up on the list are Paper Flowers, some very decorative things I do say, that can go pretty much anywhere. If you want a look at them, follow this link: http://www.seventeen.com/fun-stuff/weekend-fun/make-paper-flowers-4808
Plunge begins this Sunday night. Buya students are invited to the Auditorium and Underground at Shoal Creek for a night of music, message, and meaningful activites. Our topic: “Summer here’s, now what?” Please drop your students off in the front of the Shoal Creek building and pick them up in the same place.
The Buya Lockin is Friday June 6th from 9:00pm to 8:00am the next morning. If you haven’t registered yet do so by clicking here. You need to print of the permission slip and bring it with you, plus $10 to get your t-shirt. Leaders will be wearing this year’s t-shirts this Sunday morning at Buya:Am.
Crash will be having their weekly Gathering time for high school students this coming Monday from 6:00-8:00 in the Underground of Shoal Creek. Bring some clothes to get sandy in. We’ll be firing up the BBQ and playing some sand volleyball among other things. Girls’ small group will begin after we get done playing around 8:00.
I think that’s all I can think of for now. If you have any questions, please email me, Justin Talley, at justin@shoalcreek.org. Thanks!
Dear Families,
I want to communicate the most recent important developments in our student ministries at Shoal Creek. Because it is our continued goal to be very effective at connecting our youth with Christ, we have decided to make some changes in how we operate.
The biggest change you will see is the creation of our new Sunday night programs just for students. We believe it’s vital to create an environment of intentionally spiritual experiences that cater specifically to the different ages of our students. Because of that, we now have the auditorium to use every Sunday night.
On the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month from 6-8 p.m., Buya Plunge will occur. On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month from 7-8:30 p.m., Crash’s Fusion will occur. Plunge will be for 6th-8th grade students and Fusion will be for 9th-12th grade students. Fusion will also invite college-aged young adults that are looking for a place to belong. These Sunday night programs will incorporate music, messages, media, discussion, and many other interactive experiences.
If you have a 6th-8th grade Buya student, you should also be aware we are changing the format of our Sunday mornings. During both services, we will have Buya:AM. Our goal for this time is completely aimed at building relationships with students. This means we will no longer be doing programming or teaching activities during our Sunday services. We can create a much more effective learning environment for the Buya students with Buya Plunge.
In short, your Buya student will have the opportunity to participate in Buya:AM every Sunday morning during either service and Buya Plunge on the 1st and 3rd Sunday nights of each month from 6-8 p.m.
Your 9th-12th grader (Crash) will have the opportunity to participate in the weekly Gathering Time on Monday nights from 6-8 p.m. and Fusion on the 2nd and 4th Sunday nights from 7-8:30 p.m.
On Sunday May 25th, we will have a family meeting in the Underground starting at approximately 12:15 p.m. (following the 2nd service) and will be a time of explanation and exploring. I will go over in person all the info I’ve put in this letter and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you have.
If you have questions or concerns at this time, or if you want to find out how you can get involved, please contact me at justin@shoalcreek.org or 816-510-3859.
Thank you,
Justin Talley

Elevate – The Student Ministries of Shoal Creek
“Buya” (6th-8th grade ministry) “Crash” (9th-12th grade ministry)
Elevate’s Mission – To turn spiritually seeking students into fully devoted followers of Christ.
Elevate’s 3-Dimensional Strategy – We believe that to complete our mission and connect our youth with Christ, we need to create three distinctly different environments with three distinctly different goals. But just like a 3-D object, you can’t experience one without experiencing the others.
1st Dimension – Width – Building Relationships
The solid base for any spiritual journey is always a relationship. We are dedicated to providing time solely to build relationships with our students in non-threatening, social environments. Our goal is to provide time where leaders and students can hang out and be themselves without having to know where they’re at on the spiritual journey.
Buya:Am occurs during each of our adult services on Sunday mornings in the Underground.
The Crash Gathering occurs on Monday nights from 6:00-8:00 in the Underground.
Both Buya and Crash have other social events scheduled throughout the year.
2nd Dimension – Height – Intentionally Spiritual Experiences
Looking for God means looking Up. We have devoted every Sunday night for students to engage in the most meaningful spiritual experience that we can provide. Our Sunday night student services incorporate music, media, message, and many forms of interactive learning experiences. Our goal is to provide the clearest picture we can of who God is.
Buya Plunge – 1st and 3rd Sundays from 6:00-8:00 6th-8th grade students
Crash Fusion – 2nd and 4th Sundays from 7:00-8:30, 9th-12th grade students and college-aged students who are still seeking a place to belong
3rd Dimension – Depth – Devotion
Becoming a follower of Christ means becoming deeply devoted. It means continually learning who God is and how to take that knowledge into the heart. Devotion means learning to live like Jesus would live, being the person that Jesus would be. Our goal for devotion is to provide students the opportunity to learn what it means to follow Jesus and to act on that knowledge through serving.
The opportunities Buya and Crash students to become more involved through small group environments and serving opportunities are unlimited.
